Melvin Eugene Claborn Sr., 82, of Sweet Home, passed away Jan. 30, 2023.
He was born Nov. 27, 1940, in Glover, Okla., to Dewey and Minnie N. (Chaney) Claborn.
Melvin served in the United States Navy from January 1958 through March 1962.
He moved to Sweet Home in the early 1960s.
He built his home in 1973 with his wife. He passed away at his home on Old Holley in Sweet Home.
Melvin helped build several reservoir dams. He then worked at Sweet Home Sanitation until retirement in 2004.
He enjoyed hunting when he was younger, feeding his cows, and building things, including wooden toys.
He loved playing with his grandkids.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Shirleen Claborn; two sons, David and Gene Jr.; five grandkids, Emily and Tyler Rhoads, and Miya, Kaitlyn and Kelly Claborn; two great-grandkids, Kyler and Easton Rhoads; brothers John Henry and Monroe Claborn; and sisters Martha Mills and Lee Claborn.
He was preceded in death by his mom, dad and sister.
A memorial service was held Feb. 8 at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.
