Melvina Guthrie

Melvina Guthrie, 71, of Sweet Home, died Nov. 1, 2012 at Avamere Rehabilitation of Lebanon.

She was born May 17, 1941 in Bennington, Okla. to Obie and Ruby (Roberson) McCann.

At age 13 ahe moved to California with her family, settling in Santa Paula. While there, she met and later married Tommie R. Guthrie on Nov. 16, 1958. They lived in Santa Paula for many years, where they started their family. In 1976 they moved to Oregon, settling in Sweet Home.

Mrs. Guthrie was very supportive in her sons’ involvement in sports. She worked for many years at Phillips Industries in Stayton.

She enjoyed quilting and camping. She loved spending time with her grandkids.

Mrs. Guthrie is survived by her husband Tommie Guthrie of Sweet Home; sons Jerry Guthrie and daughter-in-law Maribeth of Creswell, Lonnie Guthrie of Albany, and Ronnie Guthrie of Sweet Home; brother Obie McCann, Jr. of Stockton, Calif.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Guthrie; brothers Carl, Harl, John and Randy McCann; and sister Maxine Sommers.

A graveside service was held Nov. 5 at the Lebanon I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association, sent in care of Huston-Jost Funeral Home, 86 W. Grant St., Lebanon, OR 97355.
