Editor’s note: May is Mental Health Month and The New Era has agreed to include a weekly message submitted by local mental health advocates who are concerned about the effects of the past year on local residents. Here is this week’s installment:
Are you finding it harder and harder to include some kind of exercise in your daily routine?
Remember, when you are feeling stressed, it’s tempting to not want to exercise but the benefits of doing some kind of exercise will be clear in the long run.
Exercise can bring relief to muscles that are tense from stress because they release chemicals in the body (endorphins which are neurotransmitters) that make you feel good and inhibit your body’s stress response.
The Linn County Mental Health Advisory Board encourages everyone to remember that May is Mental Health Month and that there is no health without mental health.
