Michael Perkins

Sept. 15, 1956 – March 15, 2019

Michael Harvey Perkins, 62, of Sweet Home died March 15, 2019 of esophageal cancer at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis.

He was born Sept. 15, 1956 in Portland to Rosalie and John Perkins. Mr. Perkins was aised in Siletz on a 20-acre farm, where he learned his work ethic and his love for the outdoors. He lived his teenage and early adult years in Springfield, working in the wood industry.

Mr. Perkins settled in Sweet Home, which he called home for over 25 years. There he enjoyed his employment with Rainier Wood Products and made many lifelong friends.

He loved fishing, hunting, crawdadding, camping, mushroom picking, and hiking – but most of all, his family and friends. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his bounty with neighbors and friends. 

He was a generous, kind, loving soul, who always tried to find the best in everyone he came in contact with. He will forever be missed but never forgotten.

Mr. Perkins is survived by four brothers, Alan, Jimmy, Morgan and Skip; his sister, Alice; his daughters, Michelle and Amanda; and six grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Senior Citizen Center, 870 18th Ave. The event will include a potluck, so attendees are asked to bring a favorite dish and memory of Mr. Perkins to share with friends and family.
