Sweet Home’s midget American baseball team went 4-1, placing first in a tournament in Brownsville on June 8 and June 9.
This was the first time the age group, 9- and 10-year-olds, has won the popular Brownsville Tournament. All of the Valley teams try hard to get into this event.
Coach John Paulé Williams felt Sweet Home was placed in the toughest bracket of the tournament and the win was a team effort.
The team includes many first-time players at this level.
Sweet Home defeeated Lebanon 5-4 then lost to albany 13-12. Sweet Home followed with wins over Brownsville, 15-2; South Albany, 4-3; and West Albany, 8-3, in the championship game.
