Rev. Milton W. Hopper, 85, died on Feb. 29, 2012 of natural causes.
He was born June 21, 1927 and reared in Eugene and trusted in Jesus Christ as his savior at age 16.
He was drafted into the Navy before his senior year of high school and served in World War II on a minesweeper in the Philippines.
He went to Cascade College in Portland on the GI Bill and graduated in 1951 with a degree in speech.
While there, he met and married his wife of 60 years, Dorothy.
He then attended Western Evangelical Seminary in Portland, completing a master’s of divinity in four years while pastoring and leading choirs part time.
Rev. Hopper served 40 years of pastoral ministry with the Evangelical Church, primarily in Oregon.
The Hoppers were involved in music, youth and missions while pastoring. They raised five children, three of them school teachers.
They retired to Sweet Home in 1992 to be near their son, Steve. In retirement, they enjoyed traveling to Mexico and Alaska and completing home improvement projects.
Rev. Hopper enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, and he always had a story about his adventures.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Sweet Home; five children; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandchild.
