Missing camper found at Cascadia State Park

A 24-hour search at Cascadia State Park ended Thursday evening, Aug. 11, when the missing man was discovered outside the campground.

Anthony Laveck, 26, of Eugene, had been camping at Cascadia since Monday. He suffers from muscular dystrophy and walks with a cane, according to information given to searchers at the campground.

The search began Wednesday evening after Laveck’s father was unable to reach him by cell phone. Linn County Sheriff’s Capt. Joe Larsen said the search began about 9 p.m. Wednesday night. It continued through Thursday, including Linn County Sheriff’s horseback search-and-rescue posse members, Lane County Search and Rescue Team members, a U.S. Forest Service search-and-rescue dog, and flyovers by a Blackhawk helicopter from the 1042 Army Air National Guard out of Salem.

Laveck was found, exhausted but in good health, about 8:30 p.m. after being unresponsive and moving most of the day, according to the Sheriff’s office. He was reunited with his father on Thursday evening.
