Molalla 72, Sweet Home 69
The Huskies lost a fast-paced, fun game in their season opener 72-69 in boys basketball Friday night at Molalla.
“We started off really well,” said Coach Tim Porter. They jumped out to a 15-3 lead at the start. “And then we kind of slowed down a little bit.”
The Huskies led 18-11 after the first quarter.
Molalla made some adjustments and closed the gap to 34-30 by halftime. The Huskies held on and led 56-50 at the end of three.
“They hit some really big shots,” Porter said. “You have to give them credit for that. We played really good defense. We had a lead till halfway through the fourth quarter. It’s one of those games we feel we should have won.”
The Huskies went into the game after six days off and one day of practice. It was Molalla’s third game.
Give them credit though, Porter said. Molalla was knocking down threes while defended.
“I told the kids after the game, I really can’t find much negative to say about the game,” Porter said. “I was pleased, very pleased with our offense – any time you score 69 points.”
The Huskies played good defense too, he said. It was just a fast-paced game with good play.
“It was a fun game to watch,” he said.
