A Monmouth man was killed Wednesday, July 28, in a two-vehicle crash on Corvallis Road at Parker Road near Independence.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies and medical personnel responded to the scene shortly before 11 a.m.
A preliminary investigation, according to a news release, revealed that a 1980 International 9400 semi truck driven by 50-year-old Rollin Knight of Sweet Home was traveling northbound on Corvallis Road. When it attempted to turn west onto Parker Road, it collided with a southbound Toyota driven by 50-year-old Jason Eby of Monmouth.
Eby suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the Salem Hospital after being transported by Lifeflight.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted during this incident by the Oregon State Police, Polk County Fire District No, 1, Polk County Public Works, the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Polk County District Attorney’s Office.
