Motorcycle, car collide on Main Street

Rescue and police personnel work at the scene of a collision between a car and motorcycle Wednesday evening, June 28. According to police, at approximately 8:14 p.m. Norma Hutson, 58, of Sweet Home, was turning left on Main Street onto First Avenue when Steven Ballweber, 34, al so of Sweet Home, riding a Kawasaki motorcycle, collided with Hutson’s 2008 Subaru Legacy while eastbound into town on Main Street. A witness to the crash told police they observed the motorcycle traveling 60 to 70 miles per hour prior to impact, and that the motorcyclist “sped up” and “tried to beat” Hutson before she made the turn. Another witness on scene said they had seen the motorcycle swerving in and out of its lane before the crash and riding at 90 miles per hour or more, according to Sweet Home Police Department Detective Sean Potter. After the crash, Ballweber’s legs were extremely swollen and he likely suffered broken legs from the incident, according to responding officer Allen Cripe. He was transported to Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital. Hutson suffered pain in her right arm from the incident and was cited and released for driving with a suspended license.
