Sweet Home High School Mr. Husky contestants kicked off their fund-raising campaign for the Shriners hospital at Spoleto’s Pizzeria and Wine Shop Thursday.

The eight high school boys invented their own pizza for the restaurant’s Act of Kindness Menu, developed two years ago as a way to contribute to charities, said manager Christine Nyberg, and during fund-raising events Spoleto’s will donate $5 for each pizza sold.

Spoleto’s staff gave the boys a tutorial on the local ingredients the restaurant uses and the local charities it works with, she said.

The pizza will be available on March 11 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. when the Mr. Husky contenders will work for tips, Nyberg said. The pizza may be available for another week too.

On March 13, the Mr. Husky participants will host a three-on-three basketball tournament, said Spencer Knight, a contestant. The cost is $20 per team. All ages may participate.

March 17 is the Mr. Husky competition, when the eight high school students will compete in various categories, from fashion to talent, for the title of Mr. Husky.
