According to county records, the Holley School District was formed in 1855 and although several changes have taken place since that time, it has remained Holley School throughout those 156 years.
The recent suggestion to change its name, while well intended, is a costly and unnecessary activity.
Through the years boundary changes have resulted in Holley students transferring to Crawfordsville or Oak Heights and the closure of Liberty and Pleasant Valley Schools necessitated students moving to other schools in Sweet Home. No suggestion of a name change was made at those times.
The parents and students from Crawfordsville and Holley are quite capable of deciding what, if any, changes in name of school or mascot might be made. It should be their decision and can be thoughtfully dealt with when a new school year starts in September. The PTC’s from the two schools have worked well with each other in past years.
I am sure they will continue to do so as they join together in support of their children and of their school staff members in the coming years.
