ncumbents elected to School, SHFAD boards; write-in count under way

Four incumbents were re-elected to their seats in the May 19 election.

In Sweet Home School District, winning new four-year terms were Jason Van Eck in Zone 5, at large, collecting 988 votes; Nick Augsburger, Zone 8, at large, 912 votes; and Mike Reynolds, Zone 9, Sweet Home, 988 votes.

Three candidates had announced their write-in candidacy for three seats with no candidate filed. The New Era will report write-in victors when the clerk completes the process of counting and verifying the write-in votes.

For Zone 3, Foster, the county clerk’s office counted 122 write-in votes. Angela Clegg sought the seat as a write-in candidate. Incumbent Leena Ellis did not run.

For Zone 4, Cascadia, the clerk counted 105 write-in votes. Debra Brown had sought the seat as a write-in candidate. Incumbent Kevin Burger did not run.

For Zone 6, Crawfordsville, the clerk counted 138 write-in votes. Carol Babock sought the seat as a write-in candidate. Incumbent David VanDerlip did not run.

In the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District, two candidates ran unopposed, Larry G. Johnson winning a seat with 999 votes and Elmer D. Riemer with 992 votes.

The only contested Sweet Home election went to incumbent Tim Geil with 745 votes. His opponent Don Schlies receieved 362 votes.

No candidate had filed for one open seat in the Sweet Home Cemetery District. The seat was held by Tom Hyer. The position received 67 write-in votes.

Approximately 1,500 write-in ballots from Sweet Home are being counted and results are expected in the next few days, officials said. There will also be a 14-day challenge period before results are official.

There were 20 elections county-wide in which no candidate filed to run, officials said.
