New charges filed against former SHHS volunteer

New charges have been filed against Joel Aranda, 25, of Lebanon.

The former Sweet Home High School volunteer coach was arrested in May on charges of online corruption and luring a minor.

In the initial case, the Sweet Home School District reported to police that it had received information concerning communications between a Sweet Home High School student and Aranda during the 2015-16 wrestling season, said Sweet Home Police Chief Jeff Lynn.

The communications were discovered by the student’s parents.

The SHPD school resource officer and detectives from Sweet Home and Lebanon police departments began a joint investigation because Aranda lived in Lebanon and previously served as a volunteer coach at Lebanon High School, 2014-15.

‘On Aug. 11, the state accused Aranda of second-degree sexual abuse, a class C felony, for an incident that occurred in March of 2014.

On Aug. 12, he was charged with first-degree sodomy, a class A felony, for an incident that allegedly occurred in the summer of 2015.

The investigation remains open.

Detectives are asking anyone who believes that Aranda has had illegal contact with them or their child to contact Pichardo at Sweet Home Police Department, (541) 367-5181, or Det. Ryan Padua at Lebanon Police Department, (541) 451-1751.

An early resolution conference is scheduled for Sept. 15.
