New county map to help tourists navigate

A group interested in promoting tourism in Linn County has produced a new map of attractions in the county.

The map, formatted as a brochure entitled “Linger in Linn,” features themes such “The Family Voyager,” “The Explorer” and “The Culture Seeker” in directing the traveler to an attraction or experience that would interest them.

“This map is a first draft of our long-range goal,” said committee member Dave Furtwangler of Sweet Home.

The committee wanted a marketing piece for the summer travel season and this one came together quickly.

“Though the map does not include all of Linn County in this first draft, the plan is to expand and be all-inclusive,” in future editions, said Jimmie Lucht of the Albany Visitors Association. Maps are available at local Linn County Community visitor’s information distribution sites such as visitors associations, chambers of commerce, city offices, etc.

As part of this effort, the Linn County Tourism Coalition, in partnership with Albany Visitors Association has built and installed a Travel Information kiosk in the lobby of the Linn County Fair and Expo Center. The facility will be staffed by volunteers Thursday through Sunday, June through September, and for special events.

Those interested in volunteering to help with the information kiosk should contact Cathy at Albany Visitors Association, (541) 928-0911.

People interested in helping with other ongoing Tourism Coalition efforts are encouraged to contact their local tourism representatives (travel information distribution centers) to see how they can get involved and help build this industry in Linn County.
