New festival still in works for SHEDG

The Sweet Home Economic Development Board of Directors is continuing to plan a new music festival, featuring indie and alternative artists.

The board approved 2013 budgets, including a budget for the new festival, Monday night during its regular meeting.

At this point, the organization is laying the groundwork in preparation for the festival.

The SHEDG board will host a community information meeting in the future, said SHEDG President Kevin Strong. That meeting will most likely be held some time in February.

SHEDG announced the proposal to operate the festival last summer when the county and SHEDG announced plans to permanently site the Oregon Jamboree country music and camping festival during the summer.

SHEDG has operated the Oregon Jamboree for 20 years as a way to raise money to fund local economic development and charitable projects.

The proposed second festival would run the week before the Jamboree, which is scheduled for Aug. 2-4, and it would use some of the same resources, such as staging, to help hold down costs.
