New sergeant Jason Ogden brings ‘integrity,’ ‘compassion’ to police department, chief says

Jason Ogden is just a little over a week into his new job in the town where he wanted to live and raise his children.

Police Chief Jeff Lynn promoted Ogden to sergeant with the Sweet Home Police Department on June 7. Ogden has served as a detective with the Valley Interagency Narcotics Team and with the department; patrol office, as acting sergeant and as field training coach. Among the officers he coached was Lynn when he was a new patrol officer.

“I’m extremely excited,” Lynn said. “And it’s been a privilege and an honor to promote Jason and work with him all these years.”

Ogden is a responsible role model, mentor and leader, Lynn said. “He brings a lot of qualities with him. He has the compassion. He has the commitment, and he has the overall integrity to serve the officers and serve the community well.”

Working with the officers, serving as a buffer between the line officers and management, is among the sergeant’s key purposes, Lynn said.

The word “sergeant” comes from Latin, where it means servant, Ogden said. “I feel privileged, to not only serve the community and the department, I feel doubly honored to serve the officers here.”

Ogden has been with the department for more than 15 years, he said. “I left for about nine months. I went to Washington County to be closer to my wife’s family.”
