The Sweet Home School District welcomes 11 new teachers this year. Here is a list of the new arrivals, with details provided by the district:
- Logan Shea will teach physical education at Oak Heights Elementary. He is from Bandon Oregon and loves to travel and hike with his two dogs; a corgi and a red heeler.
- Emily Wagner will teach Algebra one and Geometry at the high school. This year marks her fifth year teaching. She is excited to be a part of the Sweet Home Team. She graduated from the University of North Dakota and taught in Minnesota for four years.
- Chris Sherburne will teach biology at the high school. He studied field and wildlife biology at California Polytechnic State University and was educated at Oregon State University. He is excited to get to know the community.
- Bethanie Young will be a Title One Teacher at Foster Elementary. She is super excited to work with the team at Foster. She and her husband moved here six years ago and they walk the community daily with their three dogs.
- Shelly Strong will teach fourth grade at Foster Elementary, sharing the role with Katie Virtue. Strong grew up in Sweet Home, graduating in 1998. She got her masters degree from Willamette University and taught for nine years in the Salem-Keizer School District. She is excited to be back in the classroom in Sweet Home.
- Alli King will be teaching first grade at Foster Elementary. King is a first year teacher. She began working at the Lebanon District as an Instructional Assistant. She graduated from Western Governors University and is so excited for her start in Sweet Home.
- Lillyanna Walker will be a behavioral LRC at the high school. Walker graduated from Sweet Home High in 2020, before working as an educational assistant in 2021. She is so excited to begin her first year teaching.
- Hannah Bliss will teach physical education in the Holley District. Bliss grew up in Southern Oregon and moved to Sweet Home six years ago. When she is not in school, she loves to spend time outdoors with her family. She is excited for this year.
- Hunter Johnson graduated from Portland State University. She moved in June with her husky, Blue, to be a part of the Sweet Home School District Family.
- Hailey Miller will teach second grade at Foster Elementary. After being a title one assistant for three years at Foster, she is excited and grateful to return as the second grade teacher.
- Danae Teixeira will teach math at the junior high. “Math may not teach us to add love or subtract hate, but it gives us hope that every problem has a solution.”
