New year starts with design twists start off

Dedicated readers of The New Era may notice some slight changes in today’s issue.

We’ve revised the design slightly in an effort to sharpen up the look of the inside pages, and to make better use of our available space.

We’ve tightened the body copy of the paper and we’ve adopted a typestyle that we believe will be more reader-friendly. We’ve also added some headline fonts and changed others and, to keep all this from becoming too “sharp,” we’ve added a soft gray bar under the folio at the top of most inside pages.

In addition, the 55 Plus section, which has been a separate section since 2006, has been incorporated into the paper itself. It will be available in limited quantities as a four-page publication at the Sweet Home Senior Center and to make that possible, we will print it on four separate pages in the newspaper – today those pages are 7-8 and 13-14.

We have some other changes planned, both for the newspaper and for our sweethomenews.com website, that will be announced in upcoming weeks.

All of these are designed to keep your local newspaper economically healthy and to serve our readers and advertisers as effectively as we possibly can.
