Nicole Hampton to serve in Turkmenistan

Sweet Home resident Nicole Hampton has accepted a two-year assignment with the Peace Corps to serve as a health education volunteer in Turkmenistan.

She is the daughter of Bill and Chris Hampton of Sweet Home.

In her assignment, Hampton will work with host country nationals to help increase the knowledge and skills of health care professionals in Turkmenistan, educate communities on healthy behaviors and provide support for local and national health care organizations. She leaves the United States on Sept. 8.

Hampton is a 1999 graduate of Sweet Home High School. She earned a bachelor?s degree in human development and family sciences from Oregon State University in 2003. She most recently worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a horticulture and greenhouse aide.

?I am extremely excited for this opportunity to increase my knowledge of the world,? Hampton said. ?I want to help people reach their full potential and overcome struggles, and I want to present a peaceful and caring image of Americans and help Turkmens understand Americans better.?
