Nina Hutson

an. 3, 1923 – May 6, 2008

Nina Hutson, 85, a long-time resident of Sweet Home, died May 6, 2008 at Bridgecreek Memory Care in Lebanon.

She and her identical twin sister Ina, were born in La Garita, Colo. to Steven Place and Katherine Kirby. She was raised and attended school in La Garita. The twins enjoyed trying to fool people with their identities. They did everything together and even married brothers from the same family. Mrs. Hutson graciously took care of her twin sister until her death from cancer in 1955.

On Sept. 7, 1937 she married Fay L. Hutson in Del Norte, Colo. They moved on to Michigan where Mrs. Hutson waited for her husband’s return from World War II. As the wife of a World War II disabled veteran, she dedicated herself to caring for her husband upon his discharge. The Hutsons moved their family in 1958 to Colorado, and returned to Michigan in 1962 to sell their home. They made the journey from Michigan to Oregon in 1963, and settled in Sweet Home, where they spent the rest of their lives.

Mr. and Mrs. Hutson were long-time members of the VFW in Sweet Home and Remembered Veterans of the USS England DE635. Mr. Hutson preceded his wife in death in 1990.

Mrs. Hutson spent her years as a wonderful wife, the mother of seven children, 23 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She never worked outside of her home, finding joy in caring for her family. She enjoyed cooking, family gatherings and flower gardening.

Mrs. Hutson enjoyed traveling with her husband. On any given day, she could be found re-arranging her furniture. She will be remembered as a caring and loving person.

She leaves behind her children; daughters and son-in-laws Florence and Donnie Cotterell of The Dalles, and Ina and Eldon Davis; sons and daughters-in-law Duane and Dottie Hutson of Rexburg, Idaho, Leroy and Tony Hutson, Kevin Hutson and Dell Hutson all of Sweet Home; and a sister, Pauline Lawrence of Muskegon, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fay L. Hutson; twin sister Ina Hutson; infant daughter Rosalee Hutson, who died shortly after birth in 1938; her parents; brothers Bill Place and Steve Place Jr.; one sister, Letha Snow; and grandson Michael Perry.

Funeral services were held May 9 at Sweet Home Evangelical Church, with interment at Gilliland Cemetery, next to her husband of 52 years. A gathering followed at the VFW Hall in Sweet Home.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
