North Marion 4
Sweet Home 0
Brett Casto pitched a no-hitter Thursday to lead North Marion lead North Marion in a 4-0 shutout against the Husky baseball team at North Marion.
“North Marion was really tough tonight,” Coach Dan Tow said. “And their starting pitcher was very good. He started out a little rocky but got better as the game went on.
“We didn’t help ourselves much. We looked at too many pitches and just didn’t compete as well as we could have. Nonetheless, you have to give their kid credit. It’s not easy to throw a no-hitter, and he did a great job.”
Winning pitcher Casto struck out 11 Husky batters and walked six.
Brent Smith was the losing pitcher. Cody Miller and Bryce Beard pitched in relief. They gave up a combined six hits.
The Huskies are tied with Cascade for second. Monday night’s meeting between the two teams was to determine which would go on to state without a conference playoff challenge. The results of the game were unavailable at press time.
If the Huskies won the game, they finish second and host a team in the first round of state playoffs on Monday. If they lost, they will host the Capital Conference fourth-place team on Thursday or Friday.
Sweet Home and Cascade are followed in the standings by Stayton, North Marion and Molalla.

After holding a narrow lead most of the game, Sisters blew it wide to defeat the Huskies 10-3 on May 12 in Sweet Home.
“We competed pretty well for six innings tonight,” Coach Tow said. “I thought Donny (Cliver) pitched very well, but unfortunately, we couldn’t give him much run support. The Livsey kid (Sisters’ pitcher) does a nice job on the mound. We just couldn’t get a lot of offense going.
“They got a big hit in the sixth to go up by three, and then they really hit the ball well in the seventh inning and we made some mistakes to make matters worse.
“We just have to put together a full seven innings to be successful. We’ve done that most of the time this year, but not tonight.
“Sisters has a good club, and if you give them an inch, they seem to take a mile. That’s what happened late in the game tonight.”
Carey Hintze wen 2-3 for the Huskies. Chris Phillips went 1-1, and Joe Rosa and Travis Smith each went 1-3.
For Sisters, Seth Teague went 3-4. Matt Harp went 2-3 with a solo homerun.
On the mound, Cliver struck out three Sisters batters. He walked two. Beard pitched in relief.
Winning pitcher Evan Livsey struck out nine batters and walked seven.
