The Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District responded to calls for a t-bone accident at the intersection of Fairview Road and Santiam Highway at 4:57 p.m. on Sept. 17.
Upon arriving, the on-scene battalion chief Eli Harris stated the drivers and passengers were able to self-extract prior to their arrival on the scene. This wreck saw an increase in SHFAD personnel, as the Wildland Division was just getting off their shift and were dispatched to the wreck. A total of 12 personnel were on-scene.
One of the vehicles was a Ford Expedition with a single male occupant whilst the other was a Nissan Sentra that held a mother and kids. According to Harris, the male stayed on scene as the mother and kids were transported out of an abundance of safety. No injuries were reported.
After the Oregon State Police conducted their preliminary investigation it was determined the cause of the crash was when a Ford Expedition, traveling westbound, turned off the highway in an attempt to make a u-turn to cross the highway. The Expedition turned in the direct path of a westbound Nissan Sentra causing heavy front end damage to both vehicles.
The male, Dylan Allan Robb, 24, of Troutdale, was cited on multiple undisclosed citations.
All Star Towing, Lebanon Towing, the Oregon Department of Transportation and Linn County Sheriff’s Office were all on-scene.
