Norma Peters

July 21, 1931 – May 10, 2018

Norma Claire Taylor Peters, 86, formerly of Sweet Home, died May 10, 2018 at her home in Sublimity, surrounded by her family.

She was born July 21, 1931 and grew up in Bonesteel, S.D., and married her husband Paul Peters there on June 9, 1956. The couple moved to Sweet Home in 1967 and then to Sublimity in 2014.

Mrs. Peters always valued education, beginning as a country school teacher near Bonesteel before becoming a third-grade teacher in Huron, S.D.

After her own children started school, Norma worked as a teacher’s aide in Sweet Home for 18 years, with hearing-impaired children. She was an avid reader and literacy volunteer.

Mrs. Peters was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Sweet Home and served the parish in many different ways. She later attended St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sublimity. She was a longtime member of PEO.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles, and arts and crafts, including painting, hand building clay figurines, and making ceramics and stained glass.

Mrs. Peters is survived by her husband, Paul of Sublimity; children Maureen Peters (Tonia Moxley) of Christianburg, Va., Michelle Peters (Misty Rivers) of Eugene, Matthew (Judy) Peters of Lebanon, Nora (Bill) Ross of Redmond, Michael (Dana) Peters of Stayton, David (Theresa) Peters of The Dalles and Patrick Peters of Ashland; eight grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Nora Taylor; brother Robert Taylor; and sisters Jean Taylor Nelson and Marjorie Taylor Thomson.

Rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 19, followed by Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m., both at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with interment to follow in St. Boniface Cemetery.
