Norm Norton, 87, of Foster, died Feb. 8, 2013 at the Portland VA Medical Center.
He was born in Fort Worth, Texas, the son of Clarence and Myrtle (Bowles) Norton.
He proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II from Sept. 29, 1942 through Nov. 5, 1946. Mr. Norton married Miss Elsie Irene Phillips in 1942.
He was a member of the Sweet Home Elks and Sweet Home V.F.W. for the last 24 years.
He was a snowbird, enjoying the Arizona weather, but always looking forward to returning to the Sweet Home/Foster area, where he enjoyed the annual fishing and camping trips with his boys.
Mr. Norton enjoyed his jobs as a millwright, electrician and supervisor in the timber industry. He basically retired in 1987, the same year he lost his wife.
He is survived by his sons, Norman Odell Jr. of Springfield, Leslie David of Amboy, Wash. and Gregory Alan of Kalama, Wash., 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Violet Lytle, Grants Pass.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Myrtle Norton; brothers Lonnie, Otis, Ernie, Vernon and Alvin Norton; and sisters Alice Foglin and Goldie Hardcastle.
A celebration of life graveside service is planned at 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, at Willamette Memorial Park Cemetery.
