Norman Ray Suiter, 75, of Sweet Home died Nov. 20, 2015.
He was born Jan. 11, 1940 in Eugene to Ray and Greta Dawn (Condart) Suiter. His family moved to Brookings in 1952, where he graduated from Brookings Harbor High School. While still in school, at age 16, he pursued a job in radio broadcasting, landing a position at KURY radio.
Mr. Suiter was very active in the community. He went on and worked at other radio stations around the state and also did play-by-play for many high school and college games. He loved sports and gardening and telling jokes; his face would light up and it would make you smile.
Mr. Suiter was a very devoted Christian and loved being involved with all activities of the Crabtree Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife Mary of Sweet Home; children: Anna and son-in-law Rod Squires of Willow Creek, Calif., Robert and daughter-in-law Christi of Hayward, Calif., Lynette and son-in-law Scott Johnson of Fairfield, Calif., Ron and daughter-in-law Teri of Colville, Wash., Aaron and daughter-in-law Cat of Lake Stevens, Wash., Tammy Suiter and Tim O’Neil of Alsea, and Sherry Callagan and Glen Sneed of Lebanon; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters Nancy Ruebush of Brookings, Peggy and brother-in-law Dale Turpin of Reedsport, Judy and brother-in-law Mick Ames of Turner, and Eva and brother-in-law Randy Canoy of Salem; and brother Russ and sister-in-law Rhonda of Brookings.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Crabtree Christian Church, 37650 Crabtree Drive, Crabtree.
