Husky cross country runners competed at Creswell Thursday against some 35 to 40 schools.
“Most were 3A or 2A except for a few 1A schools and Roseburg,” Coach Billy Snow said. “This course is tougher than the Philomath course from a week ago where virtually each kid had a season best run.
“Added to that was some uncharacteristic heat and a tough week of workouts. The kids ran well but will run much better in two weeks when districts roll around.
“Since all the league schools were present, we were looking to be competitive with our league and see where we stack up prior to districts. The boys finished 23rd out of 33 complete teams. We were only 50 points behind North Marion, which last week beat both Cascade and Sisters. Those two schools were ahead of North Marion this week. We easily outdistanced Stayton.
“Peter VanDerlip had a great race being only a few seconds off a season PR.
“On the girls side, we ran incomplete since Ashley Dalton could not run. Jessica Trautwein was our top finisher despite stopping in the first mile and helping an injured runner of the course.”
