Principal Josh Dargis above, gives Lexi Simonson a high five during Oak Heights Elementary School’s Jog-A-Thon on Oct. 4. At right, parent volunteer Cari Brewer clips Payton Messmer’s card, indicating another lap on the walking trail. Payton is her nephew. Funds went to students’ classrooms for field trips and supplemental materials. “Our kids were troopers! They ran regardless of the giant raindrops coming down – smiling and happy the whole time while us adults were covered up with just a marker or hole punch sticking out!” PTC member Brandy Duncan reported. She said this year the PTC matched all funds raised from Jog-A-Thon, which were “over $1,600” and applied it to a “playground upgrade” fund they are starting. Over the summer a large play structure was removed and the replacement is not adequate for the volume of students it is supposed to serve, she said.
