Obituary: David Anderson

David Michael Anderson, 62, of Monmouth, died October 28, 2009.

He was born Dec. 2, 1946 in Seattle, Wash.. He graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1965. In 1968 he enlisted in the United States Army and served with the 101st Airborne Division during Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1971.

Mr. Anderson worked with Washington County Fire District, Monmouth Fire Department and retired from Polk Co. Fire District #1 as assistant fire chief. He also was EMT Director and a member of the Monmouth City Council.

In 2003 he graduated from Western Oregon University.

He enjoyed fishing, writing, playing guitar, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.

All who knew Mr. Anderson will remember him by his generosity, love of outdoors, service to community, genuine smile and boisterous laugh. He had unconditional love for his wife, family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Hoida of Monmouth; daughter Erin Anderson of Hillsboro; son Grant and daughter-in-law Sharon Anderson of Vancouver, B.C.; daughter Heather and son-in-law Benson Perry of Battle Ground, Wash.; daughter Maureen and son-in-law Jaime Russell of Portland; daughter Vanessa and son-in-law Craig Hall of Monmouth; daughter Colleen Lynch of Independence; four grandchildren; sister Gayle and brother-in-law Joe Schula of Portland; brother John and sister-in-law Pam Anderson of Portland; and sister Carolyn Anderson of Denver, Colo.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Polk County Fire Department, 1800 Monmouth St., Independence. Private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
