Dorothy J. “Dot” Wright, 89, of Sweet Home died July 15, 2010.
She was born March 27, 1921 in Clatskanie to Fred and Emma (Blackford) Barnes.
She moved with her family to Portland, where she started high school. Then she moved to Sweet Home in her junior year, where she graduated with the class of 1938.
On June 13, 1941 she married E.L. “Doc” Wright, a Sweet Home native. They moved to Newport, where they had two children.
They then moved to the Keizer area, north of Salem, where Mrs. Wright lived until the death of her husband, in 1978. In 1980 she re-located to Sweet Home, where she resided until her passing.
During her life she was a full-time mother, worked for several restaurants in the Salem area, worked at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Salem, and operated “Dot’s Dog Shop” in Sweet Home for 15 years
Mrs. Wright was a professional-quality knitter. She participated fully in the outdoor activities of her family. She loved people and her animals.
She is survived by her sons, Bert and daughter-in-law Jan Wright of Sweet Home, Larry and daughter-in-law Kay Wright of Milton Freewater; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Alice Barnes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E.L. “Doc” Wright; and brother Ron Barnes.
A memorial service was held July 19 at Sweet Home Christian Church.
