Obituary: Elsie Bryant

Elsie “Chris” Bryant, 91, of Sweet Home died Nov. 30, 2009.

She was born Jan. 10, 1918 in Harrisburg to Anders Christian and Katharine Elizabeth (Williams) Christensen.

After high school she attended beauty school in Eugene and worked as a beauty operator.

She married Denver A. Middleton on June 23, 1940 at her parents’ in Harrisburg. The Middletons moved to Timber, where they both worked for the railroad. Later, their jobs relocated them to Grants Pass where Mr. Middleton died June 12, 1961. His wife continued to live for several years in the Grants Pass area, working for the US Bank there. Later she worked at the US Bank in Brownsville, Sweet Home and Halsey until her retirement in 1979.

She then moved back to Sweet Home to be near her sister, Blake Enos.

Mrs. Bryant enjoyed hunting, fishing and telling stories. She was active with the Sweet Home Elkettes.

She is survived by her brother, Ben Christensen of Harrisburg; nieces Jean Price of Prineville and Roxie Putman of Albany; nephews, Clifford Christensen of Terrebonne, Cecil Christensen of Eugene, Charles Christensen of Harrisburg and Hubert Christensen of Harrisburg; and many grand-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Denver, parents, brother

Leonard Christensen and sister Blake Enos.

No services are planned at this time.

Final burial will be at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens in Grants Pass. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Elks Scholarship Fund, Evergreen Hospice serving Sweet Home, or a charity of your choice.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
