Obituary: George Ryan

George D. “Ike” Ryan, 77, of Sweet Home died on the morning of Sept. 15, 2009.

The son of George and Ines (Baker) Ryan, he was born Feb. 2, 1932 in Janesville, Wis.

He was raised in the Footville area of Wisconsin and served in the Army from 1949 to 1952. He moved to Oregon in the early 1960s and worked for an athletic club in Portland as a custodian

Mr. Ryan liked to hunt and fish. In his later years he enjoyed gardening and making things grow. He had a big heart and liked to tease people. Even through his illness, he didn’t complain, but was positive and a good patient. He loved his wife and family.

He is survived by his wife, Elvira Ryan of Sweet Home; daughters Susan Martin of Indiana, Lora Massey of Arizona, and Leanna Dryden of Washington; sisters Rosemarie LeTourneau of Lodi, Wis., and Kathleen and husband Larry Dustan of Janesville, Wis.; close friend Bob Kenny; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Ryan was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Ryan; and brothers Kenneth Ryan, Robert Ryan and Quentin Ryan.

Graveside services were held Sept. 18 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to American Cancer Society.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
