Obituary: James Craver

James Reed Craver, 69, of Sweet Home died Aug. 14, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on March 17, 1940 in Endicott. N.Y. to Robert Reed and Gertrude Craver. He married Geri Kniss on June 17, 1961 in Santa Cruz, Calif. They were together for 37 years before she died in November 1998.

Mr. Craver worked for IBM for 30 years until he retired in 1989. He lived in New York, California and Arizona before settling in Sweet Home in 1990.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as woodworking and construction. He liked to watch sports and followed his Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Rams during the seasons. He loved to help people for the sake of helping and he enjoyed talking with just about anybody.

Mr. Craver is survived by his brother, Wayne Craver and sister-in-law Janet of Redding, Calif.; son Brett Reed Craver and daughter-in-law Colleen of Longmont, Colo.; daughter Teri Ann Allan and son-in-law Bruce of Lake Oswego; three grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

For the last 10 years he shared his home with his companion, Judy Heeter of Sweet Home.

In accordance with Mr. Craver’s wish, in lieu of a service and burial, family and friends are invited to one last get-together around the fire pit at his house in Sweet Home, at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22.
