Obituary: James Funk

James Kenneth Funk, 79, of Sweet Home died on the evening of Sept. 29, 2009 at his home.

He was born Dec. 22, 1929 in Burns to Francis Harold and Myrtle V. (Evans-Hughes) Funk.

Mr. Funk traveled to many places

while he was in the Navy. He served active duty for 22 years and in the reserves eight years. He considered Oregon his home and settled in the Sweet Home area in 2005.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and camping. His hobbies included making walking canes.

Mr. Funk is survived by his wife, RoseAnn; daughters Charlene and son-in-law Tony Soriano of Las Vegas, Nev.; Kathie and son-in-law Richard Carlson of Portland; and Billie Jo Stockton of Tacoma, Wash.; sons Paul of Molalla; Richard of Gresham; and John of Tacoma, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Martin L.; mother Myrtle; brother Harold and grandson Cody.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at the VFW Hall in Sweet Home.

Donations can be made in his name to the Navy Relief Fund. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
