James Lee Hicks, 77, of Sweet Home, formerly of Walnut Grove, Mo., died March 30, 2010 in a Corvallis medical center.
He was born Sept. 30, 1932 in Nowater, Okla. to Robert R. and Ruth E. Gratton Hicks.
He joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. After his discharge he married Ella R. Lee on Aug.24, 1957 in San Jose, Calif. He worked as a carpenter, building and selling homes for more than 50 years. He enjoyed singing, westerns and TV game shows.
Mr. Hicks is survived by his wife Ella, of Sweet Home; sons Daniel L. Hicks of Sweet Home, David I. Hicks and Jerry D. Hicks both of Walnut Grove, Mo., Allen W. Hicks, Gilroy, Calif., and James Lee Hicks, Jr., also of California; two daughters, Mary S.
Hicks of Bolivar, Mo. and Dorothy L. Lapham of Melbourne, Australia; brothers, Robert I. Hicks of Stockton, Mo., Edward Hicks of Web City, Mo., Lewis D. Hicks of Birkenfield, Richard Hicks of Salem and Roger Ramson Hicks of Sweet Home; sisters Charlotte Hunter of Sweet Home, Deloris Clinton of Salem, Doris Zumwalt of Foster, and Joyce Hope Hicks and E. Ruth Pietree, both of Red Bluff, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hicks was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hicks in 1982; and his mother, Ruth G. Hicks in 1989.
