Leona Irene Achilles, 91, of Sweet Home died Oct. 2, 2010.
She was born Aug. 14, 1919 in Platte, S.D. to Nick and Sophia (Schellenberger) Gukeisen.
She married Jerald C. Underwood in December of 1937. Later she married Orville Achilles on Feb. 15, 1963.
Mrs. Achilles loved traveling, fishing and playing bingo. She also looked forward to trips to Spirit Mountain.
She moved into Wiley Creek Assisted living in 2005 and enjoyed living there.
She is survived by her children, daughter Gloria and son-in-law James Carter of Sweet Home, son Jerald and daughter-in-law Vicki Underwood of Sweet Home, and son Leland and daughter-in-law Barbara Underwood of Springfield; two stepsons, Carlyle Achilles of Albany and Hershel Achilles; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Orville and six brothers.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Oct. 7, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Gilliland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Evergreen Samaritan Hospice.
