Obituary: Lois Carr

Lois Nora Carr, 87, of Sweet Home died Oct. 4, 2010.

She was born Dec. 27, 1922 in Montesano, Wash. to Ray Lewis and Ethel Eva (Mann) Freeman.

She lived in Washington as a youth and moved around in her 20s and 30s. She started her family in Washington and eventually settled in Sweet Home in 1963. She lived in the same house that they bought many years ago.

Mrs. Carr helped build airplanes during World War II. Later in life she volunteered at the Sweet Home Gleaners.

She loved canning, baking, quilting and especially being a grandma.

Mrs. Carr is survived by six children, Roy Lee Carpenter, Robert Lewis Carpenter, James Daniel Carpenter, Sally Joan Carpenter, Paul Edward Carr and Tim Allan Carr; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul A. Carr, in 1998; brothers George Freeman, Bob Beers, Ray Freeman and Jerry Freeman; and two sisters.

Funeral services were held Oct. 8 at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel, with burial at Gilliland Cemetery.
