Obituary: Mildred Wallace

Mildred Helena “Millie” Wallace, 87, of Sweet Home died at home on the night of Sept. 18, 2009 with her family around her.

She was born Nov. 16, 1921 in Fort Wayne, Ind. to Charles E. and Leona (Wagner) Dickens.

She was a longtime resident of Sweet Home, moving here in 1971 from Reno, Nev.

She also lived in Indiana, Alaska, California, Germany and Washington, D. C. before settling in Oregon.

Mrs. Wallace’s hobbies included gardening, sewing, needlework and reading prior to the loss of her eyesight. She enjoyed working with youth as they learned Cub Scouting skills. She was a Gleaner and loved helping others.

She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Wertz and son-in-law Richard; sons and daughters-in-law Jim and Teresa, Tom and Connie, and Robert and Susan; a sister, Dorothy Jean Meyer; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents and a brother, Tommy Dickens.

A funeral service was held Sept. 26 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sweet Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Safe Haven Humane Society.
