Obituary: Mina Hirschi

Mina Hirschi, 92, of Sweet Home, died on the morning of Dec. 14, 2009.

She was born Dec. 17, 1916 in Sweet Home to Frank Percy and Hilda (Geil) Coulter. She lived most of her life in Sweet Home except for a brief move to eastern Oregon, then returned to live in her home in Foster.

Mrs. Hirschi was a cook at the Sunnyside Grade School. She loved to sew and made all of her own clothes. She enjoyed quilting and made each of her children a quilt for their weddings. She also was an avid reader of Harlequin Romances.

Mrs. Hirschi is survived by her daughters, Carolee Merritt and son-in-law Wilbur of Priest River, Idaho, and Sherral Tucker and son-in-law Thomas of Sweet Home; son Steven Hirschi and daughter-in-law Donna of Junction City; daughter-in-law Jane Ann Hirschi of Quilcene, Wash.; nephew Richard Hirschi of Albany; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She had 11 brothers and sisters. One brother and all of her nine sisters are still living.

Mina was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Hirschi, in 1997; son Gary V. Hirschi in 2009; granddaughter Michelle Crabtree in 1999; and brother Jack Coulter in 1991.

Funeral services were held Dec. 18, with burial at Gilliland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Evergreen Hospice.
