Obituary:Helen Blankenship

Helen Louise Blankenship, 82, of Sweet Home died at Twin Oaks Rehabilitation Oct. 15, 2009.

She was born July 16, 1927 in Hector, Ark. to William A. and Martha (Luyellyn) Hill.

She married Boyd L. D. Blankenship December 6, 1945. They moved from Arkansas to Twin Rocks, Ore. in 1949 before moving to Sweet Home in 1961.

Mrs. Blankenship was a housewife most of her life, though she worked for White’s Electronics for approximately three years.

She was a devoted Christian lady and was involved in many hours of women’s ministries. She enjoyed crocheting on pillow cases and made many quilts for family and friends. Cooking was a great joy to her and she was well known for her homemade bread and desserts. She loved to fish and go RV camping.

Mrs. Blankenship is survived by her daughters, Janice Magors of Old Town, Fla., and Charolette Popovic of Sweet Home; sons Donald Blankenship of Portland and Paul Blankenship of Shedd; sister Mary Anna Stevenson of Rockaway Beach; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd; brothers Thurman Hill and Bill Hill; and sisters Dorothy Thornson and Edna Parks.

Viewing will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at Harvest Christian Fellowship. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Final burial will follow at Gilliland Cemetery.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
