Old Armory Building to receive a new roof

Linn County Commissioners Roger Nyquist and Sherrie Sprenger on Tuesday, April 19, accepted two bids to re-roof the Old Armory Building.

Commissioner Will Tucker was absent.

General Services Director Russ Williams presented a bid of $296,960 from Roof Toppers of Vancouver, Washington, and $406,222 from ABC Roofing of Portland. Both will be examined, with Williams returning a recommendation to the commissioners. He said the engineering estimate was about $361,000.

The plan is to have the project completed by October. The Armory Building is located at 104 4th Ave. SW in Albany.

In other business, the commissioners:

— Learned from Juvenile Director Torri Lynn that the Juvenile Department’s annual plant sale has started. Sales will all be online, with only credit card payments accepted. The public can view all of the potted flowers ($4) and hanging baskets ($35) at http://www.new-beginnings-garden.myshopify.com. Orders can be picked up the next day, from noon to 1 p.m. and 4 to 5 p.m. Lynn said students work in the greenhouse about 70 minutes per day and receive horticulture class credits.

— Agreed to participate in the County Assessment Function Funding Assistance Program, which, as Accounting Officer Bill Palmer informed the commissioners, provides funds to help counties meet compliance with laws requiring equity and uniformity in property taxation. The grant is for $4,3723,473.

— Announced that 2022-23 Budget Hearings, which are open to the public, will be held through Thursday at the Linn County Expo Center. A schedule can be found on the Linn County website at http://www.co.linn.or.us.
