One arrested in crash on Quartsville

Linn County deputies investigate a crash scene to which deputies and emergency workers responded at about 3 a.m. Sunday. John D. Jewett Sr., 31, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. He suffered minor injuries in the crash. He had been headed south on Quartzville Road, according to a Linn County Sheriff’s Office report. Swerving to miss a deer, his 1999 Ford F-250 pickup struck a guardrail and the bridge over the south arm of Foster, just north of Highway 20. The crash broke the pickup into three pieces, the bed, cab and undercarriage, covering the roadway. Jewett was located nearby and arrested. Jessica N. Burnside, 19, driving a 1984 Ford Mustang, was also headed south on Quartzville Road, and unaware of the wreck ahead, crashed into the wreckage. She was not injured, according to reports.
