One dead, two injured in highway collision

A local man was killed and his wife is in serious condition after a car collided into their motorcycle on Highway 20.

Oregon State Police reported they responded to the crash at Liberty Road on Friday, Oct. 17, at about 4:45 p.m.

The preliminary investigation indicated a Subaru Outback, operated by Katherine Elizabeth Spellman, 19, of Longmont, Colo., entered the highway from Liberty Road and was attempting to turn westbound onto Highway 20. The Subaru entered the path of an eastbound Harley Davidson Road King, operated by Jeremy Wayne Smith,46, of Lebanon, causing a side impact collision.

Smith was declared deceased at the scene. His passenger on the bike, Delana Ann Marie Smith, 45, of Lebanon, was seriously injured and transported to an area hospital.

The operator of the Subaru, Spellman, was also seriously injured and transported to an area hospital. A passenger of the Subaru, Shasta Faith Levin, 18, of Winston, was reportedly uninjured.

An on-scene investigation and clean-up impacted the area for about five hours.
