OSP reports fatal collision involving pedestrian in Halsey area

A Eugene man was killed Thursday evening, July 31, after he was struck by a trailer towed by pickup truck on Hwy. 228, Oregon State Police reported.

According to OSP, troopers responded at 8:48 p.m. to  the single-vehicle fatal crash near Milepost 2 on Hwy. 228.

According to OSP, a preliminary investigation indicated a white Dodge Ram towing a utility trailer, operated by Justin Cane Clark, 39, of Junction City, was traveling westbound on Hwy. 228 when the trailer struck a pedestrian, identified as Elijah A. Copeland, 46, of Eugene. OSP said Copeland had left a red Toyota Tacoma pickup and entered the westbound lane on foot for an unknown reason.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The operator of the Dodge Ram, Clark, and a passenger in the Dodge,  Mikala Frances Craigmiles, 38, of Junction City, were not injured, OSP said.
The highway was impacted for approximately 2.5 hours during the on-scene investigation.

OSP was assisted by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Halsey Fire Department, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
