Outdoor School students get a taste of winter

Approximately 170 sixth-grade students from Sweet Home elementary schools gather Friday morning, March 23, outside the lodge at Camp Tadmor after snow interrupted the annual Outdoor School, organized by the South Santiam Watershed Council. Below, students play a dodge ball variant to kill time while awaiting buses to transport them back to Sweet Home. At right, students practice archery Thursday afternoon, and below right, they work on their team flags. At the bottom, students examine aquatic insects and wildlife. During Outdoor School, sixth-graders get the chance to get into the field and explore science and natural resource management. Supporting Outdoor School or providing discovery classes were Camp Tadmor, the SSWC, Sweet Home Ranger District, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Oregon Department of Forestry, Cascade Timber Consulting, the Small Woodlands Association, the Sweet Home High School Wood Shop, M2 Outdoor Sports, the Mid-Willamette Steelheaders, Radiator Supply House and many community volunteers.
