Re: “Test scores put SH behind rest of state again” (Sept. 20): The New Era reported that our school district continues to score poorly in English language arts, math, and science, compared against statewide scores.
Statistics show that early reading enhances a child’s ability to achieve academic success. Children that read proficiently by third grade have a much greater chance of ultimately graduating high school than those that do not.
