Pat Baxter

Beatrice Charlene “Pat” Baxter, 79, of Sweet Home died Jan. 26. 2016.

She was born Dec. 11, 1936 in Hatfield, Ark. to Earnest and Opal (Yarbrough) Miller.

When she was 3 her family moved from Arkansas to Idanha. They then moved to Sweet Home when she was 6; she lived in Sweet Home for 73 years until her death.

She graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1956.

She married her high school sweetheart, Ernie Baxter, on Oct. 3, 1957.

Mrs. Baxter enjoyed pinochle, wrestling, class reunions, shopping and yard work. She loved her family.

In later years the Baxters spent their winters in SanTan Valley, Ariz..

Mrs. Baxter is survived by her husband, Ernie Baxter of Sweet Home; children Kandi Miller of Independence, and Sonya and son-in-law Terry McFarland, Shim and daughter-in-law Shauna Baxter, and Mike and daughter-in-law Aileen Baxter, all of Sweet Home; two grandchildren, whom she raised, Kori Watson and Sonny Baxter, both of Sweet Home; brother Burlon Miller of Sweet Home; sister Babe Muller of Albany; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ernestine; brother Darrell; and grandson Cody McFarland in 2002.

A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at Sweet Home Mennonite Church.

Final burial will be at Gilliland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Baxter’s name to the Sweet Home Alumni Scholarship.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
