Patrol vehicles ordered to replace units lost in pursuit

The Sweet Home Police Department has ordered two new vehicles to replace those destroyed in a pursuit in the area of Third and Fourth avenues south of Highway 228 on Oct. 24.

Destroyed were a Chevrolet Caprice owned by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office and a Caprice and Chevrolet Impala owned by the SHPD.

The city’s insurance company approved the replacement of both of the city’s totaled patrol cars, Police Chief Bob Burford said. The department has ordered a new Dodge Charger and a Ford Police Interceptor, an SUV.

The vehicles will probably arrive after the first of the year along with another Dodge Charger that had been ordered as part of the department’s normal rotation.

Until then, the department is operating with five marked patrol vehicles.
