Phoenix High School dominated the nine-team Cottage Grove Invitational Golf Tournament April 20 at the Tokatee Golf Course with a score of 309.
Sweet Home finished sixth with a 376, led by Sam Walter’s 12th-place individual score of 82. Capital Conference rival Stayton came in third at 334.
“The tough course gave the inexperienced Sweet Home team fits,” said Coach Tom Horn.
Sean McGuyre ws second for the Huskies with a 44-44-88 score.

Capital Conference at Mallard Creek
Sam Waller’s fifth-place finish paced the Huskies to fourth place in a Capital Conference golf match, involving all six conference teams, at Mallard Creek Golf Club.
Waller fired a 41-40-81 to finish two strokes out of second. Scott Barton, of Sisters, was medalist with a 2-under round of 70.
Sisters scored a six-shot win over Mollala and 8 over Stayton in the highly contested match. Sweet Home finished with a score of 359, the team’s best of the season.
Ryan Elliott showed his game in coming around with a season best 43 on the front nine and 92 overall.
Chelsea Gagner showed the boys that girls can play too with a top-20 finish. After a nervous and rough start, she shot 45 on the back nine, good for a 97.
