Firefighters mop up a fire that burned approximately .75 acres in the 42100 block of North River Drive. Oregon Department of Forestry and Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District responded to the fire at 12:59 p.m. on Saturday. “It started from an individual using a weed eater with a metal disc,” said Forest Protection Supervisor Chad Calderwood of the Sweet Home Unit. The disc hit a rock and sparked a fire. Randy Heath was cited in the incident with unlawfully allowing a fire to start. Calderwood said that his crew has been staying busy recently, and many are forgetting how dangerous fire season is right now. The area is under Industrial Fire Precaution Level IV right now, and no use of mowers or chainsaws is allowed. The fire danger remains at extreme. “It’s just not letting up,” he said. The ODF sent three engines, and SHFAD sent three vehicles to the fire. Combined they sent about 17 firefighters.
